President N.Enkhbayar will not attend SCO meeting
President N.Enkhbayar cancelled his mission to attend SCO(Shanghai Cooperation Organization) meeting held in Tajikistan. Instead of him, foreign minister S.Oyun will lead our delegates. Official said that president cancelled his mission because of current political situation in Mongolia.

ULAN BATOR, Mongolia — Last month, rioting in the wake of disputed parliamentary elections left five dead in Mongolia’s capital.
But now this city is the scene of celebration. Mongolia, the world’s most sparsely populated country, with 2.6 million people, last week won its first Olympic gold medal.
“This is a huge thing,” that “tells us that, yes, we can be champions,” says Sanjaasuren Oyun, Mongolia’s foreign minister.

Polls close in Mongolia as mining deals eyed
The US Daily writes that,
ULAN BATOR (Reuters) – Mongolians turned out in droves on Sunday to vote in a tight race that will see the election of a government charged with fighting inflation and tapping into the windswept country’s huge mineral wealth.
Polls closed at 1400 GMT, but results in the vote that pits the ruling Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party (MPRP) against the Democratic Party were not expected until Monday at the earliest.
Many voters expressed a desire to see a more stable government, and Mongolia’s Election Commission said judging from early returns, voter turnout was expected to surpass the 82 percent who voted in 2004.
The last election four years ago resulted in a hung parliament, leaving the parties to scramble to form a government to rule the landlocked country of less than 3 million, whose empire under Genghis Khan once extended west as far as Hungary. Read the rest of this entry »

S.Oyun Visits France
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia S.Oyun pays an official visit to France at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of France. During the visit, S.Oyun is to hold a meeting with Bernard Kouchner, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of France and a tete-a-tete meeting with authorities of major French companies and sign on collaboration agreement between two ministries. This is the first official visit of the Foreign Affairs Minister to France in 43 years since extension of bilateral diplomatic relations between two nations.
S.Shaariibuu’s Statement is a Private Opinion
It is previously reported that S.Shaariibuu, father of a woman, killed at the Malaysian politician order, held a press conference in Malaysia. In his statement on behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs, he noted that unless the case is decided fairly, bilateral relations of the two might be halted. We got details from MFA on it. It is said that statement of S.Shaariibuu, father of the killed, is not the official position of the Government of Mongolia but it is a personal opinion only. Also MFA pays close observation on the court trial, being held in Malaysia. In addition, PM and MFA sent official letters 4 times regarding this matter. Minister S.Oyun has just informed that she sent another letter to Malaysia hoping that the case would be solved fairly.
Preparing for His Visit to Russia, S.Bayar Gets Pitfalls of Railway Staff
In framework of preparation for his official upcoming visit to Russia, PM Mr. S.Bayar got information from D.Ganbold, Chairman of Railways Authority last Friday and exchanged views on solving current problems and goals and plans on developing this sector. D.Ganbold informs, “Mongolia has 1811 km railroad, carrying 62.8 percent of total freight forwarding, , 2.3 percent of passenger transport, 96.7 percent of fright turnover and 47.6 percent of passenger turnover. With relevance to economic development of neighbor countries, freight forwarding shows a trend to grow by 12-15 percent per annum. PM is To Visit Not Only Russia but Also China
S.Oyun, Minister of Foreign Affairs has just arrived the country finishing her official visit to China. In framework of the visit, China reacted positively towards the issues related to appointing Honorary Consuls in Zhenjiang, Uyghur and Macau as well as consulate representative of Mongolia in Shanghai. The Minister notes that this is because our citizens increasingly travel, study and work overseas, namely in China. During the visit of the Foreign Affairs Minister to Inner Mongolia, scholarships provided to 100 students are to be provided to 500 students. Mongolia Will Open Consulate In Macau and Shanghai
Foreign minister S.Oyun went to PRC on Monday and made four days visit. During the visit, she saw with Si Jinpin, vice president of PRC, and Dan Binguo, Government council member of PRC, and discussed with foreign minister of PRC and visited to Diplomatic academy and Railroad department.
During the meeting and discussion, they made assessment and summary to two sides relationship and about keeping frequency of high level visits and meetings, joint celebration for 60 years of establishment of two countries diplomatic relations and 15 years for agreement of friendly relations and cooperation, and consolidation of two countries foreign ministries and other broad range of issues like culture, education and defense, and exchanged opinions about international and regional issues.
