Prime Minister would step down

Some sources constantly report that PM S.Bayar, Leader of MPRP, would end his political career in next months. He received the post from his previous leader M.Enkhbold, currently Deputy Prime Minister. He established Coalition Government regardless hiss party victory at the State Great Khural election.

Also, he supported D.Zorigt, Minister for Mineral Resources and Energy, instead of ex-President N.Enkhbayar for the candidate of by-election and now, D.Zorigt has become MP. But he is stepping down from Prime Minister’s post and leader of MPRP, because of his health. If he decides so, there will be re-distribution in the coalition government.

Government’s proposal to buy 4000 apartments is delayed

In August, the Government made new proposals to buy 4000 apartments which then be sold to Government employees with a soft loan. The decision is not being taken forward as the two sides cannot agree the price for the apartments. The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Road, Construction and Urban Development feels that the cost should be much cheaper whereas the construction companies is not wishing to lower their quoted price. The construction companies are now waiting for Prime Minister S.Bayar to return from Seoul, South Korea. Unofficial source reports that the PM will arrive in Mongolia later today.

Visit of Prime Minister of Czech Republic will start from tomorrow

Official visit of Jan Fischer, Prime Minister of Czech Republic will start from tomorrow. Ministry of External Relations announced that the Czech PM is visiting Ulaanbaatar on September 2-4 at the invitation of S.Bayar, Prime Minister of Mongolia. Jan Fischer’s visit will be the first government-level visit by Czech Republic since 1993. Read the rest of this entry »

National Security Council will decide the future of OT today

Today, National Security Council will hold meeting and will decide the future of Oyu Tolgoi IA deal. This council consists of President, Speaker of the Parliament and the Prime Minister. The purpose of this meeting could be to request special session of SGK with extra power from the President and Prime Minister as the Government did not sign agreement with direction given from SGK. It looks like that the PM, President and Speaker have all different views regarding the OT IA. The Government previously asked for amendment in general law of taxation and other draft laws but they had to sit at the bargaining table without any changes which did not bring any results. What decision will come up from the National Security Council?

PM S.Bayar shares his information on the OT IA following a closed irregular session of the cabinet ministers.

Q: Does the government think that the special session of SGK is required?

A: We discussed this issue during last Friday’s cabinet meeting. The issue will be discussed by the meeting of National Security Council during the evening (yesterday). The decision made by the National Security Council will then be re-discussed at the tomorrow’s cabinet meeting (today). After this the Government should present all the possible draft laws to the SGK for amendment. Then, we will officially request for special session of SGK to be held next week. Confused re-election in Chingeltei district

Some say that N.Enkhbayar, former President will come back to life of Politics by getting elected in Chingeltei district but some denies this as PM S.Bayar and MPRP will not support the former president. MPRP have formed a working group for this election lead by Ts.Sukhbaatar, secretary of MPRP. The working group has made surveys and researched about the possible candidates. The report from the working group revealed that residents want younger MP with great knowledge and education. Some of the residents wrote “No N.Enkhbayar please” on the back of the survey sheet. Possible candidate from MPRP was U.Khurelsukh, Secretary General of MPRP but he rejected this. In terms of MPRP the possible candidates are Ch.Gankhuyag of Khas Bank and G.Munkhbayar, Mayor of the City. Read the rest of this entry »

Irregular session of SGK

D.Demberel, Speaker of the Parliament received official letter from the Government office and the Prime Minister. Speaker of the Parliament held meetings with the advisors but they did not discuss about the irregular session of SGK requested by the Government office. The explanation is that it is too early to pass the IA deal back to the SGK but representatives from the Government Office explains that if the advisors of the Speaker decide to hold the irregular session the most MPs are able to attend.

Ban Ki Mun meets with Ministers, PM and President

Ban Ki Mun, Secretary General of UN will pay an official visit to the Government House. At 10.25am he will meet with S.Batbold Minister for External relations and at 11.25am will meet with PM S.Bayar. After this Mr Secretary General is to hold a conference in the Government House. He will provide lecture on environment changes in the Great Hall of the Government House right after meeting the newly elected President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdor. PM S.Bayar held official meeting with Mr Mohammad el Baradei

Mr Mohammad el Baradei, the General Director of International Atomic Energy Agency, visits Mongolia. Today Prime Minister S.Bayar held meeting with Mr Mohammad el Baradei.

Mongolia has huge reserve of coal, but imports petrol.

Q: What were the main outcomes of your visit to our southern neighbor?

PM S.Bayar: The main target is obvious. It is all about to bring progress, capital, equipment, technology that we are in short. My visit to China was very hectic and constructive. We saw and experienced what we need and want. What is important to us is to enter the world market, Asia Pacific region not only to one or two countries, when we realizing these mining deposits and implementing mining projects.
