Canadian New Ambassador to Present Her Credentials to the President

Her Excellency Anna Biolik, Canadian newly appointed ambassador to Mongolia, shall present her credentials to the president N.Enkhbayar on September 2. Honorable David Emerson, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada announced this appointment on July 10, 2008.

Anna Biolik (BA [Literature and Philosophy], Lycée Copernic, Katowice, 1971;
MA [French Studies], University of Cracow, 1975; PhD [Comparative Literature], University of Montreal, 1982) taught at the University of Ottawa before joining the federal government. Since 1984, she has worked for the House of Commons, the Secretary of State, the Department of Communications, the Governor General, Canada Post and Investment Partnerships Canada.

In 1997, she joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, serving in Ottawa as director of the International Business Opportunities Centre and the Market Support Division. From 2001 to 2004, she served as consul general in St. Petersburg and, from 2004 to 2006, as ambassador of Canada to the Republic of Kazakhstan, with concurrent accreditation to the Kyrgyz Republic and to the Republic of Tajikistan. She currently serves as director of the Centre of Learning for International Affairs and Management of the Canadian Foreign Service Institute. She is married to Terence Hargreaves.

SCO members sign several documents

The Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is continuing in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
President of Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, China and Uzbekistan attended the session of the Council of heads of states of the SCO member states. Representatives of observer states – India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan – and honourable guests joined them later.

The participants of the summit discussed perspectives of development of trade-economic cooperation and humanitarian partnership, issues on combating terrorism, drug trafficking and transnational crime, political and legal aspects of the SCO expansion.

On the result of the session, several documents on cooperation within the framework of the SCO, joint communiqué and Dushanbe declaration was signed.

Dushanbe declaration included separate point on South Ossetia. The SCO member states expressed their concern and supported the role of Russia in peace-keeping and cooperation in the region.

Kazakhstan, Mongolia establish joint investment fund

ASTANA. August 11. KAZINFORM Following up the results of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s visit to Mongolia on August 6-7 it was decided to establish a Kazakh-Mongolian Direct Investments Fund for deepening and expanding spheres of economic cooperation between the two countries’ business circles.

The Fund will be founded from Kazakhstani side by «Kazyna Capital Management» (ÊÑÌ), subsidiary firm of “Kazyna” Sustainbale Development Fund and from Mongolian side – by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Agency of Foreign Investments and Foreign Trade. The total sum of capitalization is expected to make USD 100 mln, the investment period is 5 years, the term of activity is 10 years, Kazinform has learnt from the KCM press service. (more…)

Kazakhstan: Nazarbayev Seeks to Make Economic, Diplomatic Inroads in Mongolia

Kazakhstan’s president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, visited Mongolia with the twofold intention of bolstering political stability there following last month’s post-election protests, and seeking an economic foothold in the East Asian country’s lucrative and under-developed mining sector.

While long on declarations of friendship and short on specifics, Nazarbayev’s August 6-7 visit opened the door to Kazakhstani investors to pump their petrodollars into projects in Mongolia and gain access to its vast mineral resources. “Mongolia, like Kazakhstan, is a country that is rich in mineral assets,” Nazarbayev told a joint news conference on August 6. “We have agreed to exchange experience in the development of deposits by Kazakhstani investors. Mongolia-Kazakhstan businessmen summon

In framework of the visit of Mr. N.Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan, businessmen of two countries hold a meeting. The meeting was launched by the Chairman of MCCI and Deputy Chairman of MCCI of Kazakhstan. During the meeting, the two signed on agreement on forming Business Council and afterwards, businessmen held meetings without officials and media. The importance of the meeting is to extend bilateral foreign trade collaborations and upgrade economic-business relations to a new level.

Bilateral economic and business relations were tied in 1997. As of today, Kazakhstan exports petroleum products, wheat and flour, whilst Mongolia does meat, meat products and wool. During business meeting, Mongolia proposed to cooperate in petroleum processing and agricultural technology and equipment utilization. Kazakhstan expressed interests on importing wool, cashmere and carpet. There were businessmen, interested in investing Mongolia. (more…)

Kazakhstan interested in cooperation with Mongolia: N.Nazarbayev
ULAN-BATOR. August 6. KAZINFORM. /Yernur Akanbai/ “Kazakhstan is interested in development of political, trade-economic and cultural cooperation with Mongolia”, Kazakh President N.Nazarbayev announced at the negotiations with Mongolian President Nambaryn Enkhbayar, Kazinform reports.“Political, trade-economic and cultural relations between Kazakhstan and Mongolia have been developing dynamically within 16 years of diplomatic relations. Kazakhstan’s side is interested in further development of cooperation”, Nursultan Nazarbayev said. “Taking into account common interests on regional and international levels, Kazakhstan plans to continue developing cooperation with Mongolia”, the President noted.

The Kazakh President emphasized that trade economic cooperation is the basis for development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Mongolia. (more…)

Visit of N.Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan starts

At the invitation of the President N.Enhbayar, H.E. N.Nazarbayev, President of the Kazakhstan Republic pays the state visit to Mongolia. Official activities of the visit start today. During his 2-day visit, N.Enhbayar and N.Nazarbayev will hold official negotiation. Also, Prime Minister S.Bayar and Parliament Speaker D.Lundeejantsan are to meet the President of Kazakhstan to exchange views on bilateral cooperation and relations. In framework of the visit, Mongolia-Kazakhstan business forum is held today in MCCI.

KZ President to visit Mongolia on August 6-7

ASTANA. August 4. KAZINFORM. /Kurmat Samarkhan/ President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev will make a state visit to Mongolia at the invitation of the Mongol party on August 6-7. MFA’s official representative Yerzhan Ashikbayev made it public at the weekly briefing, Kazinform reports.

Within the visit the Head of the State will negotiate with Mongolian leadership, on the results of which there is planned to sign some bilateral documents in different spheres. Yerzhan Ashikbayev said.

“In addition, there will be a business forum with the representatives of business circles of the two countries. The forum will be aimed at enlargement of mutual business contacts and carrying out the search of realization opportunities of the perspective economic projects”, Y.Ashikbayev said.

Kazakhstan Will Invest In Mongolian Energy Sector

Fuel and Energy Minister Ch.Khurelbaatar met Kh.Nurbaev, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Mongolia, and talked about energy sectors cooperation of two countries. Ambassador was graceful for implementation of bigger projects and programs that will bring growth to Mongolian energy sector and expressed that Kazakhstan have interest to invest and cooperate in the energy sector. Minister of Fuel and Energy introduced him bigger projects that will implement in his sector like power station which will leaned on Shivee-Ovoo mine and Power Station-5 planning to build in the east side of capital city and informed that he is ready to cooperate with Kazakhstan.
