S.Bayartsogt: Better halt tax waive and exemptions

Friday, October 10th, 2008 |

Q: The Government will revoke tax on oil product and petroleum. What is your position on it?

S.Bayartsogt: When price increase, tax issue is discussed through parliament. The Government has a right to manage. Accordingly, Government of Mongolia held meeting on this issue and decreased tax on petroleum twice and exempted VAT and Customs tax. But petroleum price was still increasing. But now petroleum price is decreasing sharply, so we are reviving tax on petroleum starting from October 15 2008. We will pursue the policy to halt all types of tax and subsidy.
Q: Will petroleum price increase in the future if you revive tax on petrol?
S.Bayartsogt: The First Deputy Prime Minister met with the senior officials of the petroleum importing companies. As for today, if compare the petrol price set by the importing companies and the world market increase, price in Mongolia is higher. Therefore, we proposed them to decrease their price and they received it. Both sides reached the common consent on the possibilities to stabilize the price of petroleum.

О.Chuluunbat: The worst version can bring 1 billion US$ to Mongolia

Thursday, October 9th, 2008 |

MP O.Chuluunbat was interviewed regarding to the budget modification of year 2008 and general budget of year 2009.
Q: You said that the budget modification was quite impressive. What was the reasoning of your conclusion?
MP O.Chuluunbat: Because our budget was calculated without big loss. It is important for Mongolia.budget loss was 3-4% in the last 10 years and 5-6% in mid 90s. if there will be loss, then investors and even our domestic business community will conclude that this Government cannot manage its management. If you have 1000 MNT salary but you borrow 1100 or 1200 MNT from you friends, then this family has very poor management on money. Exactly like this, there was time that our budget management was poor. Therefore, I thought that this is very good proposal because it balances our budget. In order to attract big money from abroad, we shall pursue correct monetary and budget policy, according to the world market rule of business and investment. Then we will be appreciated by others.
