Marubeni, GDF Suez among Final Bidders for Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi Power Plant Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi LLC announced the final bidders to build its US$1 bn power plant in the Gobi Desert. The final bidders are: Marubeni Corp, Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co and Kansai Electric Power Co along with a joint bid made by GDF Suez (GSZ) SA and Posco Energy Corp, according to Bloomberg report. Coal miners operating in the Tavan Tolgoi coal basin, which contains 6.4 bn tons of reserves, include state-owned Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi LLC and Hong Kong-traded Mongolian Mining Corp. According to the company website, Tavan Tolgoi Power Plant will be capable of generating 450 megawatts of power once it becomes operational.
