Some resources note that the increasing number of vehicles is resulting in negative consequence to the capital’s air quality, as almost every individual owns an automobiles or car. Over 15 percent of air pollution in Ulaanbaatar is attributable to vehicles. Under the theme “Together out in the fresh air without cars” this year`s car-free day in Ulaanbaatar is today in a bid to bring the level of carbon emissions down in the heavily air polluted city.
Today all motorized vehicles will be barred from entering the capital’s busiest streets — West Central Intersection and East Central Intersection; Baga Toiruu; Revolution Avenue; Youth Avenue; and Seoul Street from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On the car-free days, all the streets now are dedicated to pedestrians, joggers and bicyclists during those hours.
Also on Sukhbaatar square artistic performance, race, bicycle parade, First-aid training anchalk graffiti drawing for kids will be staged to promote a green lifestyle.
