The National Scholarship Program for 2012-2013 sponsored by Oyu Tolgoi LLC presented its awards to 42 students selected through a competitive process, where a total of 270 applications were received. Of the winners, 35 students were currently studying at Mongolian universities majoring in mining and relevant disciplines, and 7 were selected to study at international universities.
The award for national universities will cover annual tuition fee and dormitory expenses for those who have come from rural areas. In addition, these students will be able to attend paid internships at Oyu Tolgoi LLC, and eventually can join the new graduates’ development program implemented by the company. However, the students won international scholarship will be provided with a full tuition fee of the university, monthly living allowances, international student health insurance policy, visa fee, and travel expenses.
As stated in the company’s recent press release, Oyu Tolgoi LLC has made an investment of MNT 168 Billion in Mongolia’s education sector to date. One of these initiatives is the above-mentioned scholarship program. Its goal is to support young people in Mongolia to study at the technical universities and schools domestically and overseas, majoring in mining and relevant technical disciplines to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees. OT has projected that it will have awarded a total of 200 scholarships to students of the national universities, and 30 for the students willing to study abroad by 2015.
