Prime Minister S.Batbold is on working visit in the countryside of Mongolia. At the moment he is in Khuvsgul aimag and during his visit he held press conference, answering questions of journalists. Here is his comment on Burenkhaan phosphorite deposit.
Q: There are debate on whether Burenkhaan phosphorite deposit has negative impact on environment or not. There are hearsay on that the Government developed feasibility study on this deposit. If it is under mining operation, is it possible to have technology that is safe and sound for environment?
PM S.Batbold: The Government hasn’t developed its final stance on this issue and feasibility study. Burenkhaan deposit is important. But we do have values that can’t be evaluated. One of them is environment and Mother Nature. The deposit will not be mined if its impact is harmful to environment at any level, under any circumstances. If the feasibility study says that its operation is not harmful for the environment using advanced modern technology and bring positive changes and effect to the local community and economy, then the Government will not refuse or suspend the mining. The Government will make its decision based on economy and science and technology, but not on the artificial or non-fundamental basis. It is obvious if the decision is made, it will be under 100% control of the state.
Q: Is Burenkhaan deposit realization issue planned in the near future?
PM S.Batbold: It is not included in the near future plan of the Government. But its study is being made. Ministry in charge of the issue hasn’t presented its report to the Government.
