Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Mongolia, Mr.S.Batbold, who is on a working visit to Japan, met his Japanese counterpart, Mr.H.Nakasone on April 13, 2009 and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation and regional issues.

Minister S.Batbold expressed gratitude, on behalf of the Mongolian government, to the Government of Japan for US$ 110 mln worth aid and loans to be granted to Mongolia to help overcome the financial and economic crisis and agreed upon on drafting related projects immediately to be financed by the given aid and loans.Noting the importance of infrastructure development in connection with minerals exploration and mining activities, Minister S.Batbold expressed Mongolia’s interest in promoting collaboration with Japan to build road, railway, communications and energy networks linking Mongolia to the region.

The sides agreed on preparatory works to start immediately for engaging Economic Partnership Agreement to be esatblished between the two countries within the framework of the Mongolia-Japan 10-Year Program for fostering relations.The sides pointed out to the need for the simplication of travel regime mutually for their citizens to enhance bilateral relations and decided to start talks to this effect involving respective bodies in both countries.

The Japanese side informed that it will study the possibility of sending its government envoy to the Environment Ministry level meeting scheduled to take place in May in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia- a preliminary part of the North east Asia Summit on Climate Change initiated by the President of Mongolia.
