www.inform.kz reports that,

ULAN-BATOR. August 5. KAZINFORM /Talgat Baimukhambetov/ – RK President’s visit to Beijing for participation in the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics 2008 will be preceded by a state visit to Mongolia – the country which sincerely strives to develop mutually beneficial partnership with Kazakhstan. KAZINFORM correspondent had an opportunity to make sure of it while doing an exclusive interview with President of Mongolia Nambarym Enkhbayar.

Mr. President, this interview coincides with Nursultan Nazarbayev’s state visit to your country. Could you tell our readers about the topical matters of the forthcoming talks? What is the state of our countries’ economic cooperation?

A wide – range of issues on the development of the two counties as well as regional, sub regional and international matters will be on the agenda of the forthcoming talks with Nursultan Abishevich. Definitely, we will touch upon the development of trade – economic and investment cooperation and deepening of comprehensive partnership. We stand for the expansion of bilateral coop with Kazakhstan to develop western regions of our country, infrastructure development in particular. It is pleasant for me to note that Mongolia and Kazakhstan have already been negotiating road transport and traffic sector, energy, civil air transport, tourism, agriculture and etc.

Regarding the current state of trade and economic cooperation, I can honestly say that both sides do not fully exploit their possibilities. Despite the noted growth of the bilateral turnover of goods, its volume for 2007 amounted to USD 28,5 mln, having dropped from the figures of last year by 44.5%. I think that for expansion and development of trade-economic relations we need to strengthen the contracts between participants of the business sphere, organize more often trade exhibitions and expand regional ties.

We are for expansion of bilateral trade and incorporation of Kazakhstan into the list of countries supplying oil products was important to satisfy the needs of our western aimaks (regions). We maintain our interest in increasing the supply of oil products from Kazakhstan in the future.

We are also interested in cooperation with Kazakhstan within the framework of complex development of such sectors of the western region of our country as transport, energy, civil air transportation, tourism, agriculture and others.

– In order to expand on the subject of economic cooperation, I would like to broach an issue of the Kazakh investment into the Mongolian economy. Has work on tangible joint-projects been commenced? In Your opinion, what hinders the development of trade – economic cooperation?

Steps have been taken towards cooperation in the sphere of investments and creation of joint enterprises. According to the end year results for 2007, 34 joint enterprises with Kazakhstan’s investments have been registered on the territory of Mongolia.

Events that were organized in December of 2007 by the Kazakhstan Fund of Sustainable Development “Kazyna” set the stage for the business circles of both countries to get to know each other with the objective of assessing possibilities of cooperation in the spheres of investments and ore mining. At the moment we are going over the proposals on development of investment cooperation made by Kazakhstan.

We would like the Kazakhstan economy to acknowledge and support the proposals of our business organizations on attraction of Kazakhstan’s investments into to the auto transport sector, creation of small enterprises for production of asphalt bitumen and signing of an agreement on cooperation in the tourism sector.

In the context of strengthening cooperation in the agricultural sector we made a proposal to the Kazakhstan side to realize joint projects on import of drought-proof wheat seeds and on their cultivation, exchange of experience in the field of education and training of agricultural specialists, particularly the Mongolian veterinaries.

In connection with this we plan to hold a bilateral forum in 2009 with the participation of scientists, representatives of business and civil servants of the two countries to discuss joint projects and farming problems.

– As it is known, Kazakh Diaspora lives in your country, and we thank the Mongolian leadership for the attention paid to our compatriots and creation of conditions for self-realization. How is the situation developing now?

First of all, they are our compatriots. The Mongolian state has always paid attention to the development and self-realization of our compatriots of Kazakh origin. Owing to such policy and state support, our nationals of Kazakh origin have been able to maintain their culture, traditions and native tongue. They play a significant role in then development of Mongolia and Bayan-Ulgy aimak (territorial entity of Mongolia).

In context of the Mongolian open foreign policy big development prospects appeared before them. Mongolian-Kazakh cooperation and direct regional contacts play an important role in this.

Creation of a new free economic zone “Tsagaannuur” in the West Mongolia will play an important role in the development and enlargement of interregional cooperation between Bayan-Ulgy aimak and the East Kazakhstan oblast (region). There is place for investment opportunities as well.

– Our interview is held on the eve of opening of the Olympics in Beijing. How many athletes will represent your country at the Olympics and what are your expectations and hopes for upcoming results of Mongolian national team at the Olympics?

The XXIX Olympics will start in the capital of our southern neighbor. The Chinese party conducted an incredible amount of work, in order to successfully carry out of these sport competitions.

We know that not just victory but participation is important for the athletes. But all athletes dream of becoming winners. And our athletes are not an exception. I think that the Mongolian athletes will do their best.

I recently read a very interesting article with the expected results of the Olympic games, which was published in an American sports magazine. It listed top candidates for the medals from all over the world and the Mongolian athletes were also in that list

– Thank you for interview.
