Some Cabinet Members of former Prime Minister Enkhbold were talking about possible privatization MIAT Company in the first quarter of 2008. The current Prime Minister received its post just right before submitting privatization options, developed by the experts from the Ministry for Road, Transportation and Tourism and the Committee of State Property, to the National Security Council of Mongolia, after discussion at the Cabinet Meeting.

“Last January, The National Security Council Meeting made resolution and made order to the related organizations to prepare the privatization and to submit its documentation to the Council meeting” some sources say. Its privatization takes longer. Another move towards privatization was that the business assessment is being made by KPMG independent auditors. After the completion of the assessment which will end in the middle of March, this air company’s evaluation will be settled.

There are many interested parts in the privatization of the national flag carrier. Except Japanese and South Koreans, there are many Mongolian businessmen interested in the privatization of the company. But the Government has the principle to offer MIAT to the company which is financially potential, experienced in the sector, steady company.

Experts think that MIAT privatization is not obvious until June 2008. Therefore, the company’s privatization will see a new government’s face that will be formed as the result of the election in June 2008.
