Street Lighting Is To Double
This year MNT 3 million out of the state budget is to be spent for street lighting. B.Erdenebat, Specialist for Urban and Public Utilities Division says, “Such much money has never been budgeted for lighting in the previous years. Now we are working on drafts and schemes of places of which old lighting should be improved and those where new lighting is necessary. These places include bus and trolleybus stations, ger areas, apartment streets and roads. After drafting, companies for lighting services should be selected via bid. It might take about a month. Urban and Public Utilities Division plans to start lighting this month and finish it on June”.
Places, where lighting should be provided, are selected on the basis of power sources considering opinions of Metropolitan Police Department, Governor Secretariat and transport agencies in the city. Ger area is the place which is in great need of lighting. According to the research, it is necessary to provide 15000 lightings in ger areas. However, as of today only 3000 lighting or 20 percent of ger area has been provided with lighting. This year additional 7000 lightings will be constructed, which means 50 percent of gear area will be provided with lighting. Though ger area, that is going to ground in 1 or 2 years, will not be included in lighting services. Also the Division gives importance to lighting that could be used for many years and are in consistency with modern technology.
Initially, lighting will be provided at bus stations including Bayankhoshuu /new terminal/, Orbit, Khailaast, Tavan shar, Janjin, Nisekh, Demjiin myanga, Sharkhad, Gachuurt, Nalaikh /old terminal/ and terminals of 3rd and 4th micro-districts. Also lighting will be provided in 8 streets in Sukhbaatar, Bayanzurkh and Khan-Uul districts, five in Chingeltei, Songino-khairkhan and Bayangol and three in Nalaikh and Baganuur Districts. With the budget provided by the state on lighting, the city lighting is to double. In other words the number of lighting, which was about 12 thousand, going to reach over 20 thousand. In the previous years, there were a lot of claims regarding quality and view of city lighting. In addition to it number of lighting and cable thief is high. Districts are taking control over thieves.
