S.Bayar Visits Chita Region
Prime Minister S.Bayar had worked 2 days in Dornod aimag. Yesterday, he changed his schedule and now visiting to Chita region of Russian Federation. Prime minister will hold a meeting with Sergey Kiriyenko, who is director general of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation. S.Kiriyenko, also working in Chita region same days, had sent an invitation to S.Bayar, and PM decided to meet with him to talk on Russian-Mongolian nuclear cooperation. Prime Minister visited Russia in April. During his visit, the Industry and Trade Ministry of Mongolia and Rosatom signed a joint plan of action in the field of uranium mining, envisaging a number of joint projects for prospecting, mining and processing uranium and other natural resources.
Rosatom is a state corporation in Russia, the regulatory body of the Russian nuclear complex. Vladimir Putin, former president of Russia, appointed Sergey Kiriyenko as a head of Rosatom in 2005.
According to some calculable research, Mongolia has over 100,000 tons of uranium.
Earlier Kiriyenko said that Russia is also ready to carry out the feasibility study of the project to build small- and medium-capacity nuclear power plants in Mongolia.
Interestingly, during S.Bayar’s visit, Kiriyenko and Bayar will go 700 meters down into a mine to see how the miners extract uranium ore.
