BEIJING, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Mongolia’s Gundegmaa Otryad qualified for the women’s 25m pistol event on Wednesday taking a massive 3-point lead into the finals.
Otryad, 30, scored 291 of a possible 300 in the 30-shot precision segment before hitting a near-perfect 299 in the 30-shot rapid fire part for a total 590 that equalled an Olympic record set by China’s Tao Luna in Sydney in 2000.
Germany’s Munkhbayar Dorjsuren, who was born in Mongolia but became a German citizen in 2002, was second on 587.
Maria Grozdeva, who won the gold medal in both Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004, was back in fifth place with 583.
Two shooters from China qualified for the eight-woman final that starts at 3 p.m. (0700 GMT): Chen Ying qualified in third and Fei Fengji was seventh. (Editing by Nick Macfie)
