Mongolian Firm Announces Coal Deposit Bigger Than Thought

Ulaanbaatar: South Gobi Energy Resources Ltd announced that higher than expected coal deposits have been discovered at its Ovoot Tolgoi site [central-southern Mongolia, near Chinese border]. A new report shows that Ovoot Tolgoi’s West Field now contains coal deposits of 193.2m tonnes, with an additional inferred coal deposit of 138.8m tonnes of coal. Explorations were drilled to depths of 250 metres. Company officials have identified three coal products for export from the Ovoot Tolgoi mine - thermal coal, premium thermal coal and metallurgical coal.
