D.Zorigt, The Minister for Mineral Resource and Energy:Top priority to amend the Mineral Law of Mongolia
Top priority to amend the Mineral Law of Mongolia
New Ministry is established with a odd like name of Ministry of Mineral Resource and Energy. It is the staff headquarters to resolve the coalition Government’s promises of “Share of Wealth” or “Grant of Motherland” to the public, to make these promises real. The Ministry of Fuel and Energy is the cradle of this “new” Ministry. Therefore, Mr. Khurelbaatar, previously Minister who is now MP, handed over his seal to the new Minister. Some duties of old Ministry of Trade and Industry were transferred to this new Ministry.
MP Khurelbaatar whispered to journalist his comments on a new Minister. He said that it is uncomfortable to praise someone who is next to me. I am happy that this appointment of a new Minister is very precise and wise appointment in charge of the Mineral Resource sector. Mr. Zorigt is the right man for this sector and he is young and robust.
They were working together on the issues of attracting 285 million US$ from Millennium Challenge Account and to produce energy in Mongolia to export into China.
As soon as he receives his seal, new Minister stated that his top priority is to amend the new Mineral Law of Mongolia, also top priorities are extended with supplying Mongolia with new energy resource, building Power Plant V, implementing Shivee-Ovoo project.

I know he was heading the Erdenest MGL for a while. Now he was promoted to the miniter. I think it is might be a good guy for the position and possible stands in the spotlight to distributed so-promised 1.5 million togrogs.
I cannot imagine the government paying that amount like a child money did. If it were to be given out as declared during the election, I will be first to run out and him my head in the sand cos it is killing the Mongolian dream - to prospere based on the mineral wealth. Rather than pursuing the charity like method of distribution, it would be wise to create some foundation where all mongolians are the shareholders so that they will be entitled to certain dividents as hte fund grows. If it is really organized as best as anyone can, hten our next generation can dream little bigger and aim little higher on the global stage. Otherwise we will be doomed like Nigeria. The resource curse is a voodoo that’s so hard to lift. At least that’s what I think. May god bless Mongolia.
