Recently the State Great Khural adopted guidelines for signing investment agreement on Tavan Tolgoi and Oyu Tolgoi. Yesterday, some representatives of civil movements announced that if this agreement will be signed then the independence of Mongolia will be in risk. The main reason of it was the pre-payment of the taxes. It is like putting these “two tolgois” at pawnbrokers. Also they said that the Government of Mongolia is trying to sell the property of Mongolia with three pages of papers.
Civil movement representatives regret that over 70% of Mongolia is owned by foreigners, thanks to the Mineral Law of Mongolia of year 1997. They are against the investment agreement of Oyu Tolgoi and Tavana Tolgoi without clear legal environment on mining industry and the State policy. If it continues like this way Mongolia will repeat sad stories of Latin America and Africa which are under poverty and constant civil wars.
They say that people in the power explains failure of Oyu Tolgoi and Tavan Tolgoi’s exploitation and realization in connection with the civil movements and their obstacles. But civil movements’ position is, in contrary, to realize them as earlier as possible. They announced that they will fight persistently if the agreement will be made in favour of foreigners and according to their will.

I understand the Civil groups point of view, but its a blind view that doesn’t take into consideration the ability of the foreign mining companies to efficiently turn rock into the valuable commodity, on a large scale.
With proper supervision and taxation Mongolia’s independence will be won not lost. The foreign companies will do the will of the Mongolian people if the agreements are reasonable and practical. The Mongolian government and the Mongolian people are sovereign in Mongolia. Delaying agreements and demanding unreasonable conditions prolongs the poverty of the Mongolian people. Without income and education people have no independence or freedom.

why ? what wrong is Mongolian Parliament…. they change the law…like baby,s diaper … every 1-4 yr someone change law , someone own interest, business deal… other country,s request (someone get cut, corrupted law makers, parliament)
example: 1996 in Mongolia (60% owned Canada , 40% owned Mongol Alt ) “EREL” company start their business… but in couple yr later mongolians change their law (again) corruption involved, and of course close their mining…. now no buddy use that land(hujaagiin company ezemshdeg…huvi hynyys tend alt shigshdeed baij baina)

we go any country,s we pay their tax….live by their law…. WE ARE ALL EQUAL..anywhere , any country any company ….. sow we should have same tax(mongolia have lowest tax on Minerals, foreign company use R resource)
People should realize that who share the risk, they will share the benefit. Those people who are opposing the mining projects should realize that smaller unregulated mining (generally owned by Chinese owner or Mongolians) may cause more problems than the big mining projects. Also they should realize that by not using those mines we will lose rather than win. However, it’s true that we have to be very careful and make right decision.
