UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will depart on Wednesday to visit China and Mongolia. His official visit to Mongolia will start on the 26th of July. Secretary General Ban is to address the challenges of climate changes and adaptation with an emphasis on the special needs of landlocked countries like Mongolia.
The UN Secretary General is to meet with President Ts.Elbegdorj, PM S.Bayar and Foreign Minister S.Batbold. Ban also plans to spend time in a traditional Mongolian herder community to focus attention on how climate change affects the lives of the herder population. Herder population mostly faces drought, desertification and water shortages.
In September, the UN Secretary General is to host a summit here, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, to galvanize support for a global deal in December on “a fair, effective and scientifically ambitious new climate framework.”
