Despite many cases of privatization in recent years, privatization of Mongolia telecom and Miat were postponed due to 2008 State Great Khural elections as well as local self government elections. The State Property Committee has now announced that MIAT will not be privatised in 2009 as they believe the largest firm in the Mongolian airline market is ‘much safer’ owned by the state. The decision was made at the end of 2008 and it was based largely on the importance of MIAT in the Mongolian airline market. Meanwhile, the State Property Committee has not received an appropriate offer for Mongolia Telecom at this time.

Smart move Miat, privatization in the long run is bad for all parties involved.
