From January 2009 the government will begin paying for the school lunch of all kids who attend public nurseries and pre-schools. There are over 130 thousand kids under 6 who attend 696 public and 87 private nurseries. This means the government will increase its expenditure on nurseries to 13 billion MNT from 6 billion MNT per year. Some argue that quality and quantity of pre-school meals may decrease as a result but specialists from the Education, Culture and Science committee have denied that and have commented that they will be regularly checking the quality of the pre-school meals and that the expenditure of 13 billion MNT will eventually increase in correlation to the inceasing cost of one school meal. The government will re-discuss this cost next March.
