In the first 4 months of 2009, the number of births (live birth) was 22070, an increase of 1886 compared to the same period of the previous year national level, while the number of mothers delivered children was 21990, an increase of 1868, or an increase of 9.3 percent compared with the same period of the previous year. Compared with the same period of the previous year, the number of under-one infant mortality rose to 480 or by 40 infants and the number of maternal deaths increased to 17 or by 10, whereas the number of mortality of children aged between 1-5 years fell to 62 or by 22 children.

At the end of April 2009, the number of unemployed who had registered themselves at Labour and Welfare Service Divisions in aimags and the capital city and were actively looking for job increased to 36.7 thous, an increase of 4769 or by 14.9 percent compared with the same period of the previous year. Compared with the same period of the preceding year, 18.6-80.8 percent increases of registered unemployed in some aimags, namely Uvs, Tuv, Khentii, Bulgan, Khuvsgul, Arkhangai, and Ulaanbaatar city and 2.0 fold increase in Umnugovi aimag, had mainly contributed to this increase.

Compared with the same period of the previous year, viral hepatitis decreased by 50.1 percent and varicella by 10.8 percent, which resulted in a fall of 12.7 thous, a decrease of 99 or 0.8 percent in the number of persons with infectious diseases. The total number of crimes committed in the first 4 months of 2009 was 7246, reflecting an increase of 428 crimes, or an increase of 6.3 percent compared with the same period of the previous year. The increase in the number of crimes recorded at Police Office was due to 2.2-71.4 percent increase in main crimes such as caused injury to the body of others, theft of property, robbery, fraud, forgery and crime against environmental protection.
