Preparing for His Visit to Russia, S.Bayar Gets Pitfalls of Railway Staff
In framework of preparation for his official upcoming visit to Russia, PM Mr. S.Bayar got information from D.Ganbold, Chairman of Railways Authority last Friday and exchanged views on solving current problems and goals and plans on developing this sector. Minister of Foreign Affairs, S.Oyun, Minister of Roads, Transportation and Tourism R.Rash, Minister of Industry and trade Kh.Narankhuu and other officials attended the meeting, exchanging ides and views as well.
D.Ganbold informs, “Mongolia has 1811 km railroad, carrying 62.8 percent of total freight forwarding, , 2.3 percent of passenger transport, 96.7 percent of fright turnover and 47.6 percent of passenger turnover. With relevance to economic development of neighbor countries, freight forwarding shows a trend to grow by 12-15 percent per annum. In Mongolia, too, export, import and domestic freight forwarding tend to increase dramatically in recent years. Our railways could not provide such capacities as of today. Thus, it is crucial to increase capacities of transportation and railroads. First of all, it is essential to sophisticate and revise legal environment, extend national railway network, increase capacities of transportation and roads, Improve transit transport, renovate equipment, technology and vehicle park and develop repair base.”
Related professional organizations have formulated technical and economic grounds, planning to take measures such as constructing 1110 km secondary railway between Sukhbaatar and Zamyn-Uud next to the current railway line and power Ulaanbaatar Railway, in order to increase capacities of transportation and roads. If the decision is released, line construction will be built in 3.5 years, transporting freight not less than 18 million tons. 7700 km road is to be constructed at 3 phases by dividing national network of new railways into Gobi, eastern, western and horizontal.
Getting the information, PM made a decision to discuss pitfalls faced by the railway sector on coming Monday at the irregular session of the Cabinet. Also PM suggested related officials to corporate positions on relations policies with Russia and development trends of the sector.
