The Drilling of the Canadian Company at Khuduu Aral Has Been Stopped Again
Canadians drilled almost half of Khuduu Aral
The Canadian “Sheiman Resource Mongolia” company started drilling work for its oil exploration operation at Khuduu Aral, the territory of Delgerkhaan soum, Khentii aimag. The company breached several laws and provisions and it was stopped by MP B.Baterdene and “Khuduu Aral” movement together with local community members. But on March 21 2008, L.Sukhbuyan, the Head of Oil Department of MRPAM, and other officials threatened the Governor of soum and re-started drilling work, by imposing penalty for stoppage period. Previously, local community members were demonstrating and blocking the drilling vehicle. Now, the company is drilling even in the night.
Therefore, according to the request to visit the site, MP B.Baterdene, L.Tseveenravdan, the senior inspector of Geology and Mining of the State Professional Inspection Authority, R.Erdene-Ochir, inspector of environment of Khentii aimag, B.Tsogtbaatar, the scholar-secretary of the Archeology Institute of the Science Academy of Mongolia and other journalists visited to the site. They temporarily stopped the operation of the exploration and informed to the Deputy Minister. If no response from the Government or Ministry of Trade and Industry will received by tomorrow, the company will continue its drilling. It has been 20 days since MP B.Baterdene, the movement and local community members made request to surrender the area of only Khunduu Aral from the 16 exploration fields with 16839 hectares owned by “Sheman Resources Mongolia”, to the National Security Council of Mongolia, The President and The Government.
