Yesterday, the international tele conference was held at the Central Palace of Culture on global warming, especially warming of Mongolia. Over 1200 delegates were attended and exchanged their point of views. During the conference, Mongolia is placed in eleventh in the world that is affected by the desertification. According to the scholars and researchers, Mongolia has become warmer by 0.3 – 0.6 degrees in last 30 years.

Munich – GAF has been awarded a contract to design and establish the new automated and countrywide Mining Registry and Cadastre System for Mongolia. After the successful completion of contract negotiations GAF will start work on-site in November 2008. The project under the Governance Assistance Program (GAP) aims to improve governance in the mining sector, through the establishment of a transparent system to grant, manage and cancel permits. The efficient and reliable management of mining titles is considered as a backbone to increase investment and growth in the mining sector of Mongolia.

The Project’s objective is to strengthen the property rights and security of tenure within the mining sector; enhance the transparency of the mineral licensing process and government’s regulatory capacity through improved efficiency, information availability and management. Q: Can Environmental Excellence in Exploration (e3) be implemented in Mongolia?

D.McCombe: Basically, e3 is the principle of environmental responsibility and recovery. It was initiated in 2003 and numerous major mining companies are implementing it. E3 can fully be implemented in Mongolia, because Mongolian main activity is still exploration works. In doing so, there will be good basement of protecting environment and conducting quality recovery work. Handouts with basic advisories were distributed to the Mongolian mining companies. Discussion on uranium

Around 10 deposits and over 1000 mineralized points in Mongolia. A open discussion is to be held on uranium and its importance and exploitation. The monthly lecture is organized by the Asia Foundation of USA, “Responsible Mining” NGO and NUM. Doctor and professor S.Enkhbat, head of the Atomic Energy Commission, and Mr. Manlaijav.G, deputy head of the state center of monitoring environment, geology, mining and radiation, State Authority of Professional Inspection and other experts will take part in the discussion. The lecture is scheduled at 17.00, Round Hall of NUM Building #1.

48 US$ for 1 ton of liquid fuel.

Recently, the new initiative of extracting liuid fuel from coal was developed and widely talked in mining community of Mongolia. The most itiatiove company “Tugrug Nuur Energy” Company announces that it will use 48US$ for extracting 1 ton of liquid fuel. Furthermore, coal of Tugrug Nuur, located in the territory of Tuv aimag, has 1.7 billion tons of coal reserve and its condition is the most favorable for extracting liquid fuel, that can guarantees the lowest cost.

Mr. John Danilovich, the General Director of the Millennium Challenge of USA planned to visit Mongolia, but he cancels his visit for uncertain period. The reason is still not confirmed yet. His visit was to get introduced with the initial 5 projects that are funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation of the United States of America, according to the agreement signed with the Mongolian Government. Those 5 projects started its implementation and 10% of them will be completed this year.

“Green Resource” company made disclosure to produce electricity and natural gas to supply Mongolia using technology of carbonating coal in the depth of earth. It prepared its feasibility study to start with Far West of Mongolia, where the electricity in high demand. As for today, this region imports its energy 100% from Russian Federation and its consumption of electricity is 50 million kilobyte/hour and pays 17.5 million US$. Moreover, projected mining projects such as Asgat silver mine, Hushuut coal mine and centers of Gobi-Altai and Zavkhan provinces.

Water protectionists summoned in Mongolia

Mongolia is one of the 20 countries where the drinking water reserve is low. Water consumption of Mongolia was 200 million cubic meters in 1970s, but it reached 400 million now. But 237.2 million cubic meter drinking water is used for industrial purpose and population consumption is 71.35 cubic meters. Also technical report was grated to 70 entities in 13 aimags and these entities will use 104.2 million cubic meters drinking water. 4.58% of it is surface water and 95.42% is artesian water.
