After the outbreak of umbilical infection disease the standing committee on social policy set up a working group and got au fait with the operations of the maternity hospitals number 1, 2 and 3.

The working group presented its report on Tuesday at the standing committee’s meeting. Although the health budget has been increasing year after year due to the inefficient policy and regulations not much attention has been given toward maternity hospitals’ issues which eventually caused the outbreak of the disease, according to the working group. License required to sell tobaccos

Private entities and shops will be required to get a special license for trading cigarettes, stated the Citizens’ Representative Assembly of UB. ADRA Mongolia and the Department of Law of UB Governor’s Office signed a cooperation agreement to cut the consumption of cigarettes among the population, and especially among the youth.

In the scopes of the cooperation the Capital Council released a regulation that states about setting certain controls on cigarettes. Accordingly private entities and shops will need special licenses to sell cigarettes. Read the rest of this entry »

The Government promised to decrease air pollution by 50%

But in doing so it will spend ₮180 billion in next seven years

When the budget, fighting against air pollution in Ulaanbaatar City, increase, smoke in City increase accordingly. Mongolia ranks No1 in the world with its air pollution. Last Friday, the Government debriefing was held at SGK’s Government hour on Resolution No 46 of the State Great Khural on decreasing air pollution in Ulaanbaatar City.

According to the GSK regulation, minority representatives should question the Government, but other MPs took the challenge and made many questions.

MP N.Ganbyamba: I understood that many people are in charge of this big issue, but zero result. In the report, it says that ₮6.2 billion is already spent for this purpose. Man died from serious pneumonia had H1N1 virus

41 year old instructor machinist at the Office of Railway was hospitalized on the 19th of October. He was being treated for serious pneumonia but died after two days of treatment. Dissection on the body showed that he was positive of H1N1 virus. Ministry of Health officially reported the first case of H1N1 virus death. The victim’s pneumonia was at life threatening situation when the treatment started says the hospital officials. There were some suspicion of H1N1 virus but the result of the test arrived on the 22nd which is after the death of the victim. H1N1 tests were carried out at the Office of Railway and currently no one is detected with the virus according to J.Tsolmon, Deputy Minister for Health.

Water is the main source of our life. It is the main guarantor of our healthy and quality life. Over 1.1 billion people are in short of drinking water.

Greenland is the richest country with its drinking water quota per person, but Kuwait has 10m3 drinking water per person per year. Every Mongolian citizen has 13.739 m3 water per year, which is quite below the world average.

Standing committee on budget holds a meeting

Standing committee on Budget started their meeting this morning at 9:30am in the ‘A’ hall of the Government House. They are discussing about whether to make changes in the draft law agreement on technological cooperation with Federal Republic of Germany. During the afternoon, at 14:30 standing committee on Environment and Agriculture is due to have their meeting. They will discuss about possible laws to restrict the use of synthetic and plastic bags, reports the media team of the State Great Khural.

1792 hectare area was forested

Forestry work was intensively carried out in Tuv aimag. Forestry farms were established in Bayantsogt, Bornuur, Bayanchandmani, Erdene, Tseel, Delgerkhaan, Mungunmorit and Sumber soums and six companies planted over 4 million trees. In other word, total forested area reaches 1792 hectare. Also Zuunmod and Tseel soums created fruit farms and 1.5 hectare area was planted for raspberry and blueberry in Zuunmod and 4 hectares for fruit in Tseel soum.

Water protectionists summoned in Mongolia

Mongolia is one of the 20 countries where the drinking water reserve is low. Water consumption of Mongolia was 200 million cubic meters in 1970s, but it reached 400 million now. But 237.2 million cubic meter drinking water is used for industrial purpose and population consumption is 71.35 cubic meters. Also technical report was grated to 70 entities in 13 aimags and these entities will use 104.2 million cubic meters drinking water. 4.58% of it is surface water and 95.42% is artesian water. Mongolia is to count its population with 13.4 billion MNT

Mongolia counts its livestock every year, but does the first time since 2000. In year 2000, the Mongolian population was 2,372,493. Between 1989-2000, the population growth rate was 1.4%. The numbers of Civil Registration Center and National Statistics Committee has difference. One says 2.5 million and another says 2.7 million. AIDS record hits 46

AIDS first recorded in Mongolia in 1996 and reached 46 as of September 8, 2008. Mostly reproductive age generation is committed to HIV/AIDS. Mongolia is listed among countries where HIV occurrence is low, however it has high risk. Unemployment, poverty and migration among the population are high. AIDS occurrences do not fall down because Mongols visit to China and Russia where occurrence number goes up.

In order to assess these complex issues in the Asia Pacific region, the second regional consultative meeting on universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support took place in Manila 26-28 August 2008. Ten Mongolian scientists participated in the meeting. They are going to mobilize related ministries in order to keep the fund adequate for HIV/AIDS prevention and protection. Also they discussed to insert diagnosis and treat HIV/AIDS without any charges in the curriculum of secondary education institutions.
